Amanda Brugel

Pointe Claire resides in a quiet area of Montreal Island called West Island. People unfamiliar with the term often think that there is a separate island to the west of Montreal but in fact it's a part of the city that's west. West Island is home to every aspect of the city of Lachine west. Amanda Brugel grew up on the island and is frequently called her birthplace. However, she only stayed there for a short period of time. Brugel lived in Courtice close to Oshawa Ontario. She aspired to be a professional dancer but because of a huge increase in her height, she outgrew every dance partner she met. According to an article by Toronto Star, she revealed that in heels she was 6 feet 1 inches tall. When I grew out of male companions at that point, I gave up. A lot of former dancers go on to act. In the case of Brugel it was the guidance from her drama teacher at her high school which pushed her in the direction she wanted. Her teacher invited her to take part in an audition in a school production. The student tried it out, and ended up playing the lead in Anne of Green Gables. This led to her being awarded an Fine Arts Talent Scholarship from York University. In 2000 she earned her Master of Fine Arts at York University. Brugel's career spans over 20 years and she has performed in more than 60 shows including big screen productions and smaller ones. Her most notable role was as Rita (pictured in the below photo) in the television show The Handmaid's Tale. Brugel is the only Canadian actor on the show in the season 1 and was only seen occasionally.
